The minimum top-up amount is the 24-hour rate because we want to spend your contribution on bike maintenance and bike share operation — not on bank fees.
Unfortunately, online payments are not free. Approximately we pay €0.40 per iDEAL or credit card transaction.
Why don't you debit my bank account for the exact amount per ride?
Short rides would then be much more expensive due to bank charges. Suppose you make 5 rides of 30 minutes each, the bank charges would be €0.40*5=€2.00. By spreading it over 5 rides, our bank charges are much lower, at 8 cents per ride (€0.40/5). This allows us to offer you a Cykl cost-effectively rate for both short and long rides.
What if I have excess credit when I stop using the bike share?
You can always request a refund of your remaining balance by email or WhatsApp. We will then transfer it to the bank account you used for your last payment.
How can you help us save on bank charges?
You can help yourself and us by purchasing multiple rides at once. For example, with a monthly pass or a discounted multi-ride pass for returning users. Because we save on banking fees, you get a discount compared to the normal ride cost.
